Via DNA, a report from Ahmedabad: Civic body fails to explain malaria’s virulence.
Fresh malaria cases continue to be reported from various parts of the city. Last year, 950 cases of malaria were reported in the city in the first five months. This year more than 2500 cases of the mosquito-borne disease have already come to light.
A desperate AMC has asked the state government to conduct research for a solution to the high incidence of malaria in the city. Sources said the civic body is baffled that, despite having a low mosquito density, the incidence of malaria is high in Ahmedabad this year.
“The mosquito density in the city is low; yet malaria cases have gone up. We have, therefore, requested the state government to conduct research for solution to the problem,” said IK Patel, deputy municipal commissioner of AMC’s health department.
Moreover, during a survey, the health department found that 27 wards had higher mosquito density than the other wards. Madhupura was found more prone to dengue, while Naroda Muthiya and Chandkheda have a high incidence of both malaria and dengue.
