Via ColomboPage.com: PHIs in Sri Lanka to boycott National Dengue Prevention Week.
Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) in Sri Lanka say they would not participate in the National Dengue Prevention week that was launched on Monday (14).
The Health Ministry declared a National Dengue Prevention Week from May 14th till the 20th as the mosquito borne disease has already claimed 51 lives this year and affected 11,378 people.
The Public Health Inspectors Union has said the PHIs would stay away from the programme due to the government's failure to respond to their demands.
The PHIs have called on the authorities for allowances for travel and uniform maintenance.
They are expected to inspect residences and offices for dengue breeding spots during the National Dengue Prevention Week.
According to the Union, the PHIs would not participate in the programme until they are assured of an increase in allowances
