PUNE: As many as 14 people tested positive for dengue infection on Thursday. With this, the count of dengue infected in Pune city has gone up to 959 since January this year.
"Among the 14 cases, most are from Hadapsar and fringe areas of the city. A very few cases were found in core areas of the city," said S T Pardeshi, medical officer of health.
Usually the chill in the weather increases after Diwali. This results in a reduction in the number of mosquitoes and, consequently, in the number of dengue cases.
"Despite winter, temperature during night time is not that cold these days. The number of dengue cases is likely to fall when there will be adequate fall in temperature with winter chill for days together as mosquitoes responsible for spreading it are not able to survive in cold weather," said Vaishali Jadhav, head of the insect control department, Pune Municipal Corporation(PMC).
