Via The News, an English-language newspaper in Mexico City: ‘Bird flu won’t hit prices’. Excerpt:
Economy Secretary Ildefonso Villarreal said Wednesday that recent bird flu outbreaks in Aguascalientes have been “completely controlled” and will not drive up egg and chicken prices.
On Monday, nearly 300,000 chickens were culled after the bird flu virus was found on two poultry farms in San Francisco de los Romo, Aguascalientes, last week.
Villareal said that the prices of eggs will not rise because Aguascalientes produces less than 1 percent of the staple food in Mexico and that half of the culled birds were non-egg producing.
