Thanks to Ivan Blanco for sending the link to this Emirates 24/7 report: Emirati dies of coronavirus infection in Germany. Excerpt and then a comment:
A 66-year old UAE national died in Germany while being hospitalised for cancer treatment (level 4). The man was infected by novel coronavirus (NcoV) the German Health Authorities confirmed.
The Health Authority in Abu Dhabi also confirmed that it's coordinating with the Ministry of Health and other authorities in the country and has taken the necessary measures as per the international standards and recommendations by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The authority confirmed that there are no suspected cases of coronavirus in the emirate up to date.
The Ministry of Health also confirmed that there are no suspected cases in the UAE up to date.
The Ministry and the Authority stated that the WHO first issued an international alert in September 2012. Up to date the WHO confirmed 16 coronavirus cases globally. This sounds almost like the report that broke this morning. But this morning's case was 73 years old, and nothing was said about his having a prior condition like cancer. This new case was 66, in Germany for cancer treatment, and we don't know where he was hospitalized (this morning's case was in Munich).
The Robert Koch Institute, meanwhile, says nothing about a third NCoV case. Moreover, this report says WHO has confirmed 16 NCoV cases; this morning's update says 17 cases and 11 deaths.
So if this is a new case, that's one thing. But it may be no more than a distorted report about the man whose death was reported early on March 26.
