The Centre for Food Safety has banned poultry and poultry product imports from a poultry holding in the Dutch village of Lochem after an H7 avian influenza outbreak there.
The Netherlands Consulate General in Hong Kong notified the centre about the outbreak.
The centre has since contacted Dutch authorities for more details and will monitor information from the World Organisation for Animal Health on the bird flu outbreak.
Last year, Hong Kong imported about 17,000 tonnes of frozen poultry and 1.3 million poultry eggs from the Netherlands.Mike Coston at Avian Flu Diary has the details on the outbreak itself.
