The condition of a 59-year-old Qatari man diagnosed with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (Mers-Co V) is stable, local Arabic daily Al Arab reported.
The patient, receiving treatment at Hamad General Hospital, had returned from Saudi Arabia, where he had probably gone for Umrah, sources told the daily. The health of his family members, relatives and others he met after returning to Qatar, was also being monitored.
A source at the hospital said the latest case of Mers-Co V should not spark fears among the residents of Qatar as the situation was being closely monitored.
The newly infected man was reported to have experienced the symptoms while abroad and got a check up after returning to Qatar.
How the man contracted MERS is unclear: "probably" on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia? If he was ill enough to seek a checkup on returning home, was he too ill to provide details of his stay in the kingdom and the reasons for it? Or to tell the authorities whom he might have been with in the days before he returned?
