ISLAMABAD: Having reported 24 polio cases this year, North Waziristan Agency has seen its another minor resident suffer from the crippling disease.
Most of the polio sufferers in the restive North Waziristan Agency, which is part of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, have never received oral polio vaccine due to a Taliban ban on vaccination.
The agency has reported almost half of this year’s polio cases, which total 75.According to the Prime Minister’s Polio Monitoring and Coordination Cell, the latest polio case in the country is Nasir Khan, a one-year-old resident of Toor Tanga village in Miran Shah tehsil.
Polio drops have never been administered to the boy.Around 0.2 million unvaccinated children in North Waziristan Agency are reported to be vulnerable to polio due to the Taliban ban and lawlessness.
