La fiebre viral Chikungunya recorre el mundo trasmitiéndose mediante la picadura del mosquito Aedes Aegypti, y dañando a cuanta persona encuentra a su paso. Según los datos consultados, hasta la fecha este brote carece de cura. Lo que ha puesto en alarma a las autoridades en el Oriente de Cuba.
The viral fever chikungunya travels the world transmitting itself through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, and harming whatever persons it encounters. According to reports, so far it has no cure. This has alarmed the authorities in eastern Cuba.
Aurora Sancho Gutiérrez, vecina del poblado Altamira en la provincia Santiago de Cuba, asegura que hay un peligro inminente de dengue en el Hospital Infantil Ambrosio Grillo, de donde están siendo trasladados un número indeterminado de niños para el Hospital Clínico–Quirúrgico de la ciudad, con el objetivo de no contagiar a los demás pacientes, y por la poca capacidad en este Centro Pediátrico.
Aurora Sancho Gutiérrez, a resident of Altamira in Santiago de Cuba province, says there is an imminent danger of dengue in the Ambrosio Grillo Children's Hospital, from which an unknown number of children are being moved to the Clinical-Surgical Hospital in the city. The objective is to keep the rest of the patients from being infected, and because the pediatric centre has low capacity.
Sancho mencionó que en días recientes apareció el virus Chikungunya y que existen casos en el Hospital antes mencionado.
Sancho mentioned that in recent days chikungunya has appeared, and there are cases in the above-mentioned hospital.
Según las autoridades sanitarias de la provincia, esta dolencia ataca las articulaciones, produce fiebre, dolores de cabeza, e incluso puede provocar la muerte. La misma se está diagnosticando a través de una punción.
Provincial health authorities say this illness attacks the joints, produces fever and headache, and can cause death. It is diagnosed with a blood test.
Brigadas de Servicios Comunales están limpiando y desyerbando aquellas franjas donde la gente no puede habitar. También las zonas más marginales, donde se vive en locales de madera, cartón, tanques viejos o cualquier otro material que aparezca.
Communal Service Brigades are cleaning and weeding the strips where people can't live. Also the more marginal areas where mosquitoes live in wooden and cardboard containers, old tanks, or any other material.
Agrega Sancho Gutiérrez que “las autoridades están tratando de enmendar el hecho como pueden. Hay un carro altoparlante que trata de informar a la población. Porque Altamira (su barrio) es un poblado con peligros, terrenos inestables, calles de difícil acceso, y pocas condiciones de saneamiento. Ellos tienen un sistema de información que no es el mejor para estos casos”.
Sancho Gutiérrez adds that "The authorities are trying to improve the situation as well as they can. A loudspeaker car is trying to inform the public. Because Altamira (her neighbourhood) is a community with dangers, unstable soil, streets that are hard to reach, and little sanitation. They have an information system that isn't the best for such cases."
La población está alarmada porque no ha habido pronunciamientos por parte de las autoridades pertinentes. Estas, evaden los temas o los abordan de manera superficial.
The public is alarmed because there have been no statements from the relevant authorities. They duck the issue or treat it superficially.
