El subsecretario de Prevención y Promoción de la Salud de la Secretaría de Salud de México, Pablo Kuri Morales, reportó hoy el primer caso importado del virus zika en un mexicano de 26 años.
The subsecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion of the Mexican Secretariat of Health, Pablo Kuri Morales, today reported the first imported case of Zika virus in a 26-year-old Mexican man.
El joven, originario del central estado de Querétaro, a 220 kilómetros de la Ciudad de México, viajó hace unos días a Colombia, país en el que se reporta la presencia del virus.
The young man, from the central state of Querétaro, 220 km from the capital, travelled a few days ago to Colombia, where the presence of the virus has been reported.
El registro de este caso “no pone en riesgo la salud de la población mexicana, porque es un caso importado y hasta ahora no se ha detectado en nuestro país la presencia de mosquito infectado con el virus zika”, afirmó Kuri en conferencia de prensa.
The report of this case "doesn't present a risk to Mexican public health because it's an imported case, and so far our country has not detected the mosquito that carries the Zika virus," Kuri said in a press conference.
La enfermedad provocada por el virus zika se caracteriza por fiebre, sarpullido, conjuntivitis y dolor en articulaciones, muscular y de cabeza, síntomas que el paciente presentó al regresar del país suramericano.
The disease caused by Zika virus produces fever, rash, conjunctivitis, and pain in the joints, muscles and head—all symptoms the patient presented on returning from the South American country.
Kuri indicó que al no existir vacuna para prevenir la infección por este virus, ni terapia específica, al igual que para el dengue y chikunguña, el tratamiento es solo sintomático.
Kuri said there is no vaccine to prevent infection by this virus, nor any specific therapy; like dengue and chikungunya, treatment is purely symptomatic.
