Via Channel NewsAsia: Radin Mas rental flats get free coat of anti-mosquito paint.
More than 30 rental flats in Radin Mas were given a free coat of anti-mosquito paint by volunteers on Sunday (Oct 30).
The initiative, called Palettes of Radin Mas, will see 216 rental units in the constituency getting the coat of paint within the next two years in stages.
Radin Mas Member of Parliament (MP) Sam Tan said the initiative was necessary for the mature estate, which has many rented flats and elderly people.
"For these families, they actually need, from time to time, a fresh coat of paint. And we know that on their own, they probably would not want to spend the money to do this because of financial constraints," he said.
Developed by Osaka-based firm Kansai Paint, the anti-mosquito paint deters mosquitoes from landing on walls. The water-based paint contains permethrin, a commonly used insecticide that wards off mosquitoes as well as other small insects like ants and spiders.
"It is hoped that the paint, which can help repel mosquitoes, can help to build a better living environment for our residents," Mr Tan said.
About 250 volunteers from local institutes of higher learning, grassroots leaders and businesses were involved in the event.
