Via Actualite.cd: Ebola in the DRC: "New response plan" to control the epidemic. Excerpt:
The Minister of Health, Dr Oly Ilunga arrived in Beni this Thursday, October 18, 2018 to present the new plan of response to the Ebola epidemic which rages in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri where it has already made 144 dead.
Several personalities including the Head of the UN Mission for Stabilization in the DRC (MONUSCO) Leilla Zerrougui and the DRC Humanitarian Coordinator Kim Bolduc; have made the trip to Beni for the presentation of this plan.
"The objectives of this new plan are to strengthen the response capacity for all strategic areas in active households in order to end the epidemic by the end of November 2018, and to continue monitoring, community engagement activities, psycho-social care, prevention and control of infections in all health zones affected until end of January 2019," said the Ministry of Health in a statement released Thursday, October 18.
The overarching principles of the revised strategy are "the implementation of a new co-targeting approach based on integrated multidisciplinary interventions and the acceleration of ownership and community engagement," the same text adds.
The strategy also includes "anchoring" the pillars of the response in the local health system and the "gradual transfer" of activities to local actors and the preparation of peripheral provinces to "minimize the spread" of the epidemic.
The operational review of the first two months of the response made it possible "to identify the strengths to be consolidated, the weaknesses to be corrected and the risk factors to be taken into account," the ministry said.
