Via Radio Moto Butembo-Beni: BUTEMBO: Women journalists pledge to accompany Ebola response team. The Google translation:
These women gathered in the Congolese Union of Media Women made this commitment at the end of their meeting around the theme "The role of the female journalist in the fight against the Ebola virus disease". This is the theme that has nourished the UCOFEM -Butembo exchange, this Thursday, January 31, 2019. The cultural circle Yira Mirembe was the setting for this meeting.
During the meeting, the head of works KAVIRA SAVALI Laetitia, coordinator of the structure, first sketched the history and objectives of UCOFEM. In her presentation, KATSUVA MISHANDELA of UCOFEM justified the choice of the theme by the fact that the woman remains a victim of the Ebola virus disease. It is in this sense that women journalists must use the media, an instrument of excellence to reach out to their peers who resist. UCOFEM is pleased with the production of several programs on the response. This awareness session interested the participants.
"I am very pleased to see all Butembo journalists coming together today for a noble cause: contributing to the Ebola response. We are able to sensitize all women like us so that we can put an end to this disease, " she said.
The other adds, "I really thank the coordinator of women journalists for inviting us to participate in these exchanges. We are really committed. We will follow the footsteps of the response team so that we can also raise awareness for Ebola. We women, we can get involved in this fight provided that we can educate women, children; since they are our brothers, they are our sisters, they are our parents those who are dying."
At the end of the meeting, the UCOFEM offered the participants an act of commitment that calls them to make the response their workhorse in their everyday work.
"We women journalists in Butembo are committed to supporting the activities of the fight against Ebola, in the awareness of women through our productions, and until the eradication of this disease in our country. Done at Butembo on 31 January 2019; the signatories, the women journalists of Butembo," they pledged themselves.
All participants signed this commitment. Note that UCOFEM has been working in Butembo since 2015, and in the DRC since 1996.
