Via Radio Okapi: Ebola fight in DRC: Mayor of Butembo welcomes decline in population resistance. The Google translation:
Butembo Mayor Sylvain Kanyamanda is delighted by the decline in community resistance to teams responding to Ebola. He congratulates the entire population of his jurisdiction for its involvement in the eradication of Ebola virus disease. He was speaking Wednesday, July 10 at Radio Okapi.
"There is already a stability in the evolution of the Ebola disease, in the city of Butembo. Today, we start to observe even weeks without a positive case, we start to live even two weeks without a case of resistance, it's been more than a month by the way, we no longer knew a case resistance or reluctance to the response to Ebola. So we can already encourage, on this occasion, the entire population of Butembo to commit to fight against this disease," said Sylvain Kanyamanda.
The mayor of Butembo however urges the Congolese authorities and its partners to take advantage of this situation to transfer the skills of health providers to cope with any eventual resurgence of the disease.
"Here is an opportunity for me to thank, encourage, the civil society, the community leaders who got involved in this fight against the disease. Now we need the government and all partners to start thinking about the health infrastructure. We are talking about the transfer of capabilities, that staff can have capabilities to deal with any disease or epidemic that may occur," said Sylvain Kanyamanda.
