APIA, SAMOA – 23 DECEMBER 2019: The measles death toll has remained at 79 since Saturday 21 December with the latest fatality a one year old.
The measles cases have also dropped from 114 last Friday to 93 on Saturday, 83 on Sunday to 82 in today’s update from the National Emergency Operations Centre.
There are 8 critically ill children and 2 adults admitted at the ICU/HDU of the National Hospital, Moto’otua plus 3 pregnant women at the Maternity Ward.
There are currently 82 measles cases who are in-patients at all health facilities. Of this, 71 are at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital (TTMH), 1 at Lalomanu District Hospital, 2 at Faleolo, 4 at the Leulumoega Rural District Hospital, 2 at the Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital (MTIIH), and 2 at Foailalo District Hospital.
The Ministry of Health confirms a total of 5,552 measles cases have been reported to the Disease Surveillance Team, since the outbreak started. There were 32 recorded in the last 24 hours.
The total number of measles cases admitted to all hospitals recorded for the outbreak to date is 1,795. Of that, 1,634 (91%) patients have been discharged.
