Things are not going well in Ireland. Via RTE: Covid-19: 3 additional deaths, 1,167 new cases.
The Department of Health has reported a further 1,167 cases of Covid-19 today, bringing the total number of confirmed cases here to 53,422.
Three people who were diagnosed with the virus have died, taking the total death toll to 1,868.
The number of people being treated in intensive care units is 34, unchanged from yesterday.
An additional 27 people were hospitalised with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. There are now 314 people in hospital with the virus.
The median age of the cases notified today is 33, 538 are men and 627 are women. 64% of them are under the age of 45.
Dublin accounted for 263 of today's cases, 142 were in Meath, 137 in Cork with 86 in Cavan. The remaining 539 cases are spread across the remaining counties.
The 14-day incidence rate for the country now stands at 291.0 per 100,000 of population, that's up from 279.3 yesterday.
Cavan has the highest 14-day incidence rate at 1,013.4 per 100,000 of population. Tipperary has the lowest 116.6 per 100,000.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said the begaviour of every individual is the most effective defence against the spread of Covid-19.
"Everyone needs to stay at home, other than for essential reasons. Follow the public health advice and treat everyone that you come into contact with as though they are a close contact of someone with Covid-19 – keep your distance, avoid meeting others.
"We are facing a big challenge, but we have faced this challenge before, and that means we know how to suppress this virus, by following the public health advice in everything we do."
