Via guineenews.org: Ebola in Guinea: Kankan region records its first case. The Google translation:
The confirmation was given to us this Saturday, February 20, 2021 by the health authorities of the region. This is, according to the regional health director of Kankan DR. Mohamed Sacko Sylla, a man in his thirties who left the forest region to go to Lero, in Siguiri prefecture.
He was diagnosed at the Léro health center and then using an ambulance chartered by the Kankan regional hospital, he was transported to the N'zérékoré epidemiological treatment center.
“Indeed, a 30-year-old man was confirmed to be carrying the Ebola virus in Léro. We were informed of this by the local health district and the prefectural health directorate of Siguiri. He is originally from N'zérékoré. We brought in an ambulance from the Kankan regional hospital to send it to the treatment center in N'Zérékoré,” he confirmed.
Still to believe Dr. Mohamed Sacko Sylla, immediately a team was dispatched to the infection zone, to identify the contacts.
“As soon as we had the information, we sent a team to go and identify all the contact cases that this gentleman had. So for the moment, the time is still at work, they are looking for contacts. When they finish, we will be able to take stock of the situation with greater precision and announce other urgent measures to be taken,” he added.
Note that this is the first time since the first appearance in Guinea in 2013 that a case tested positive for the Ebola virus has been found in the administrative region of Kankan.
Guinee Matin has a few more details on this new case. It looks as if the patient contracted Ebola in Nzerekore before travelling north and falling ill.
