This Tuesday (23/03) Brazil beat a new record of daily deaths by covid-19 since the beginning of the epidemic. In just 24 hours, 3,251 deaths related to the disease were officially registered, according to data from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass).
It is the first time that the daily death toll exceeds 3,000 in the country. The previous record had been set on March 16, with 2,841 lives lost in 24 hours.
With the new balance, the total number of victims of the disease approaches 300 thousand in Brazil, accumulating exactly 298,676 deaths.
The state of São Paulo also recorded a record of deaths this Tuesday. In 24 hours, 1,021 deaths were reported, equivalent to three deaths every four minutes.
Regarding those infected, the country registered 82,493 new cases of covid-19 in 24 hours, now totaling 12,130,019 infections since the beginning of the epidemic.
Several health authorities and institutions warn, however, that the real numbers should be even higher, due to the lack of large-scale testing and underreporting.
